Joe has been involved in the Sport of dogs since 1977. Joe’s original breed was weimaraners, and he and his wife Dawn made the switch to Brittanys in 1993, under the Sovereign prefix. Their Brittany BIS CH Chesabrit’s Code of the West CD won Best of Breed at the ABC National Specialty Show in 1993, and “Cody” held the Brittany Best in Show all-breed record for many years.
His first homebred and owned Dual Champion was in 2006 DC AFC Sovereign’s Who’s Ya Daddy. A few years later, his dog “Hobey” NBOB BIS MBISS DC GCHG Sovereign’s Chasing Legends made history by becoming the only Dual Champion to have won a Best in Show and ABC National Best of Breed win.
Joe and Dawn, under the Sovereign Prefix, have produced over 80 Champions and 10 Dual Champions, many Top 10 show dogs, GFC, RFCs, 2 x RU National Gun Dog Champions, and the Top Gun Dog in 2022 winning the Magnum’s Masked Man Award (GFC AFC GCHB Sovereign’s Judge N Jury DN). Judging is his passion, and he enjoys judging conformation, hunt tests, and field trials.

Richard Beaver
1st Vice President of the American Brittany Club
The American Brittany Club proudly welcomes Richard Beaver as the 1st Vice President. In this leadership role, Richard will serve as the Field Trial Chairman for the prestigious National Open and Amateur All-Age Championships, as well as the Derby Invitational. His responsibilities include overseeing the success of these premier events, which showcase the remarkable talent and athleticism of the Brittany breed.
A retired U.S. Army veteran with 28 years of distinguished service, Richard brings leadership, discipline, and a passion for service to his role. He resides in Wichita Falls, Texas, where he remains actively involved in field trials and Brittany events. His extensive experience, love for the breed, and commitment to the American Brittany Club continue to benefit its members and advance the organization’s future.
Richard’s journey with Brittanys began in 2006 when he purchased his first dog, DC AFC Beaver’s Straight Arrow, from True Grit Brits Kennel in Belgrade, Montana, during a military deployment to Iraq. Returning home to Fort Wainwright, Alaska, he immersed himself in training by studying books and videos on bird dog handling. He hunted grouse and ptarmigan with Arrow and connected with Jim McCann, author of Upland Hunting in Alaska, who later featured Arrow in Gun Dog Magazine. Arrow’s photograph also appeared in a 2011 Brittany calendar alongside other notable dogs from True Grit Brits.
In 2008, during another deployment to Iraq, Richard sent Arrow back to Montana for hunting and show training. Arrow earned his first show points, and under Jessica Carlson’s handling, completed his show title in less than a month. Jessica then introduced Richard to Ed Tillson, who guided Arrow in field trials. Richard and his wife, Amanda, also purchased another Brittany during this time, with Amanda managing logistics while Richard was deployed.
In June 2010, Richard attended Rick Smith’s training seminars in Montana, marking the beginning of a deeper dive into the sport. By July, he met Ed Tillson in person and observed Arrow’s training at summer camp. After moving to Fort Bliss, Texas, he competed in field trials across New Mexico, Arizona, and Montana, participating in both walking and horseback stakes.

Linda McCartney
ABC East Coast Director
Linda McCartney’s journey with Brittanys began in 1978 when she purchased her first female as a hunting companion. Growing up in a family of sportsmen and hunters, a love for dogs was already in her DNA. But it was Penelope, her first Brittany, who introduced her to the world of field trials—and there was no turning back.
Her second Brittany led her deeper into the field trial circuit and eventually into the show ring. That special dog, DC Triumphant War-boy C.D., became her first Dual Champion, setting the stage for an incredible career in breeding, training, and handling. Over the years, Linda’s breeding program has produced over 200 titled Brittanys, earning distinctions such as Best in Show (BIS), Best in Specialty Show (BISS), Champion (CH), Field Champion (FC), and National Amateur Gun Dog Champion (NAGDC). However, what remains closest to her heart are the Dual Champions—dogs that excel in both field and conformation, embodying the Brittany’s true versatility.
Linda is a passionate advocate for the Dual Champion and the ABC Code of Ethics, dedicated to preserving the Brittany as a dual-purpose dog. She believes strongly in protecting the breed’s legacy and future for generations to come.
Her commitment to the Brittany community is evident in her extensive involvement with the American Brittany Club. She has served as president of the Central New England Brittany Club (CNEBC) for many years and sat on the ABC Board of Directors. She’s worn many hats, including Field Trial Chair, Hunt Test Chair, Specialty Show Chair, and Secretary. Linda has also devoted years to Brittany rescue, serving as the ABC Northeast Coordinator.
Now, as the ABC East Coast Director, Linda brings a wealth of experience, passion, and leadership to the organization. Her deep-rooted love for the breed, coupled with her hands-on experience in both competition and rescue, makes her a dynamic force in the Brittany community.
Outside of the show ring and the field, Linda is always happy to share her knowledge, mentor newcomers, and cheer on the next generation of Brittany enthusiasts. With her unwavering dedication, there’s no doubt she’ll continue to leave a lasting impact on the breed and the club.

I am a resident of Pennsylvania in the East Coast region and have been a member of the Pennsylvania Brittany Club for over 10 years, currently serving as the club’s vice president. My involvement with the American Brittany spans more than 40 years, and I have been an active member of the American Brittany Club (ABC) for the past decade.
Over the years, I have regularly attended events in New York, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Michigan, Arkansas, Georgia, North Carolina, Virginia, Illinois, Connecticut, and New Jersey. I support and participate in both field trials and show events, and I actively hunt upland birds across multiple states with our five Brittanys. Our two youngest Brittanys are working toward their field titles, while three of our dogs have earned various championship titles, including NGDC, NWGDC, NAWGDC, DC, GFC, GAFAC, FC, and AFC.
I strongly support the mission of the American Brittany Club, which aims to promote cooperation and friendship among Brittany breeders and owners, encourage high standards in breeding, training, and competition in both the field and show ring, and preserve the Brittany as a true dual-purpose dog.
As an ABC director, I am committed to representing our members by prioritizing their concerns in my decision-making and the decisions of the national board. My goal is to help ensure that future generations can continue to enjoy this incredible sport for years to come.

Bret Lindback
ABC Midwest Director
My journey with Brittanys began in 1981 when I purchased my first dog from the President of the St. Croix Valley Brittany Club in Minnesota. What I didn’t realize at the time was that part of the purchase price included my membership in the club. By that fall, I was serving on the board. Over the years, I’ve held every position except Treasurer.
In 2006, I decided to take field trialing more seriously, which led me to purchase a horse, a horse trailer, and an All-Age prospect. After retiring in 2015, we moved to Texas, where I joined the Alamo Brittany Club and remained active in the Brittany world. I’ve served as a Field Trial Secretary, Chairman, and Judge, and I’ve been a long-time member of the National Championship Committee. Additionally, I chair the Region 19 Amateur All-Age Championship and the ABC Pheasant Classic Championship. Since 2021, I have served as the ABC Midwest Director.
As a director, my priority is always what’s best for the breed, the Club, and our members. Please feel free to reach out to me anytime.
Helen Riggle
West Coast Director
I started my journey with Brittanys in 1998 with a liver dog named FC Mo Kan Powerglide—a Nationals Qualifier and a big, raw-boned liver boy who stole my heart as we pursued a bench championship together. In 1999, I got my first pup, a field-bred firecracker, who became the first of 13 Dual Champions to carry the Wild Mtn prefix to date.
In 2005, I married Brian Riggle, and for the next 10+ years, we traveled the country as a professional team in both show and field. In 2019, we went our separate ways, and I moved back West, transitioning my portion of our breeding program to the Copper Canyon prefix. Now residing in Southern Arizona, my breeding focus has shifted to wild birds. While I may occasionally serve as a Field Trial Secretary for the Sahuaro Brittany Club or step into the show ring, my greatest passion is chasing the trifecta of wild desert quail.
This is my second term as an ABC director, having previously served from 2015 to 2018 in the East Central Region. I am now honored to represent the Western Region and remain fully committed to ABC’s mission to preserve the Brittany as a true Dual-Purpose dog.

Philip Thayer
ABC East Coast Director
I currently live in Seacoast, NH, and have been involved with Brittanys since the mid-1970s, when I got my first Brittany as a teenager. My parents bred several litters with guidance from Ron Stevenson. My wife and I got our first Brittany in 1984 and had our first litter in 1988. That litter was tested in NAVHDA Natural Ability in 1989. Although they did not earn a NAVHDA Natural Ability Award, we have since received nine NAVHDA Natural Ability Breeder Awards, including one for a litter tested at only five months old.
I served as a NAVHDA Judge for 25 years, judging events across the U.S. and Canada. Over the years, I have been actively involved in several NAVHDA chapters, serving as secretary and as president of the Green Mountain Chapter. I have also been a NAVHDA Life Member since 1995.
I am a member of the Northern New England Brittany Club (NNEBC) and the Central Maine Brittany Club (CMBC). For more than 35 years, I have held various leadership positions in NNEBC, including Director, 3rd VP (Show), Secretary, and currently 1st VP (Field). I have also served as Field Trial Chairman for NNEBC for many years and continue to chair their Member’s Day and Training Day. Additionally, I have supported CMBC’s show, hunt test, and training day.
In 1997, I chaired the ABC Summer Specialty in Essex Junction, VT, coordinating events with SNEBC, ENEBC, CNEBC, CMBC, and NNEBC. Each specialty was hosted by a different all-breed club at a unique location, making it a memorable event.
Since 1991, I have been an AKC Hunt Test Judge and actively participate in conformation shows, walking and horseback field trials, hunt tests, and NAVHDA tests. I also worked for many years as a hunting guide and managed a shooting preserve in Vermont, where, in 2004, I had the privilege of guiding Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia for two days in Northern Vermont.
Beyond the Brittany world, I dedicated several years to the Boy Scouts of America, serving as Scout Master for a local troop. I helped 11 scouts achieve the rank of Eagle Scout, served on the District Eagle Board, and was a Wood Badge Staff member.

His passion for the breed, experience in leadership, and commitment to the ABC’s mission make him a strong advocate for the Brittany community.
Mat Weldele
ABC Central Director
Brittanys have been a significant part of my life for nearly a decade, but my journey started even earlier, standing beside my dad, shooting for the Minnesota Brittany Club’s hunt tests. That first experience ignited a passion that has only grown over the years. Since getting my first Brittany, I’ve been deeply involved in Field Trials and Conformation at both the local and national levels.
For me, the American Brittany Club is more than just an organization—it’s a community that unites people who share a love for this remarkable breed. I believe in embracing new technology to enhance and expand our events while honoring the traditions that make ABC special. Whether you’re here to learn, compete, or simply enjoy the camaraderie of fellow Brittany enthusiasts, I’m excited to share this journey with you.

Leslee Masolotte
Midwest Director
Growing up in the north-central mountains of Pennsylvania, She worked in her family sporting goods store and learned the retail business from her father. She was always a horse and dog lover. She successfully showed her horse in 4-H at the regional and state level. While spending summer vacation with her aunt, they went to dog shows to show her Cocker Spaniels. Graduating from the University of Bridgeport in Connecticut, with a degree in Dental Hygiene, she returned to Pennsylvania and married Jim. He was involved in a job change that moved us to Colorado with two Morgan horses. They actively showed their horses to many championships, but she remained interested in hunting and dogs. Her first dog of distinction was their Pointer, who was supposed to be her husband’s hunting dog. They became interested in the AKC Hunting Test program. She attended some of the early seminars and helped to write rules still effective today. Fortunately, they already had horses and related equipment. They realized that field trials were much more to their liking. Their first few seasons of field trials were American Field trials; then they attended AKC field trials. The hunting dog Pointer became NFC/FC/NAFC/AFC Windtuck Baby Doll JH. She taught Jim and Leslee volumes in field trial handling.
At AKC field trials, Leslee became attracted to the looks, versatility, and high-drive personality of the Brittanys. Leslee and Jim’s first Brittanys did well in shows, hunt tests, and field trials. She bred a lovely male that became BIS/MBSS CH Windtuck Toby Aurand JH, who was loved by friend Bob Aurand and shown by Dr. Dennis Jordan, Cheryl Mika, and Leslee. His puppies are now winning BOB and group placements. His sister became CH Windtuck Colors of the Wind MH as she followed in the paw prints of her dam, CH Windtuck’s Dan Dee Daze MH. Our Timber’s Go
ldtone Joker won the Central Futurity Field and the ABC Futurity Field Run-Off. Leslee’s heart dog was, of course, FC/AFC Windtuck KC Quiet Commotion JH. Her name appears in many notable breeding programs that are actively competing today. Leslee then earned the AKC Breeder of Merit distinction.
During her years at the Brittany National Field Championships, she had at least four different Windtuck-bred Brittanys compete at the highest levels for their owners, including FC/AFC Windtuck’s Rockets Red Glare, FC Sniksoh Windtuck Willy, FC Windtuck Rudy the Rowdy One, and FC Windtuck Winter Jazz. Most well-known was 2X American Field Champion/6X RU CH/GFC/FC/AFC Firestarter’s Crossed the Line. Under the whistle of Ed Tillson, Ty was highly competitive and the AKC high-point All-Age Brittany of the year. “Ty” was owned, loved, and campaigned by friend Andi Christensen. Leslee has bred countless titled Windtuck Brittanys, so this is a brief highlight.
Leslee’s greatest pleasure has been participating in and managing field trials and serving as an AKC-licensed field trial judge and hunt test judge.
Leslee’s 40-plus years of involvement in my regional Skyline Brittany Club has given her the leadership opportunity to serve as club Secretary and Skyline field trial secretary, BOD member, and currently as President of Skyline Brittany Club. Through the years, she has been privileged to witness in competition many of the Brittanys that are the foundation of the breed.
The ABC Futurity program has been a favorite of Leslee’s. The biggest reason is the emphasis on both breeders and owners. While attending Futurities across the country, her most treasured Brittany friends have been introduced through participation with new members and old members alike. In 2017, she was honored to be appointed as Chairman of the ABC Futurity program. Leslee has worked diligently to bring the Futurity program to a level of distinction as we strive to honor both the breeders and owners of American Brittanys. Through her long-term commitment to the preservation of the Brittany breed as a dual dog, Leslee became more involved in the leadership and promotion of the breed.
When Leslee began her first term as a Midwest Director, she worked on several committees in addition to the futurity committee, most notably on the transition to the American Kennel Club from the UKC/American Field change and the subsequent changes to the ABC Championships.
Working in her second term as Midwest Director, the search for a new webmaster began and began to build a new website. The policy book changes committee, with much-needed clarification, was involved in strategic planning. One of her goals is to better acquaint our ABC members with understanding the development of our policy book and the long-term commitment to our ABC activities. As a director, the primary task is listening to the ideas and concerns of the membership and continuously supporting the individual regional Brittany Clubs.
With her long-term commitment to the breed, Leslee continues to desire to maintain the Brittany as a dual dog for generations to come both now and in the future.

A passionate competitor, breeder, and leader, Mary’s influence spans decades of service as a field trial secretary, club president, AKC judge, and event organizer. Her innovations, such as the widely adopted Field Trial Report form, demonstrate her enduring contributions to the sport.
Throughout her career, Mary has achieved remarkable competitive success. Together with her husband, Jim, she has produced and handled 14 Dual Champions, 3 Field/Amateur Field Champions, and several Runner-Up Champions. Among their proudest victories are winning the Region 8 “Dub Emde” Championship four times, claiming the Texas Amateur Championship twice, and securing runner-up placements in both championships on multiple occasions. Mary and Jim’s J&M Brittanys were also recognized with numerous Dogs of the Year awards for excellence in field trialing. Their Brittanys have competed at the highest levels, including over 20 appearances at the ABC National All Age Championships and multiple participations in the U.S. Open Brittany Championship and the ABC National Gun Dog Championship.
