Christy’s Featherduster Memorial Trophy
Best Bitch – National Championships

The Christy’s Feather Duster Trophy is one of the American Brittany Club’s most meaningful and historic perpetual awards, presented annually to recognize the highest placing bitch competing in the ABC National Championships.

This trophy was donated by H.D. “Butch” Gerlach of the Midwest Brittany Club, and was established in memory of Dusty—Butch’s beloved field champion bitch, Fld. Ch. Christy’s Featherduster, who died suddenly at an early age. Dusty was known not only for her talent and grit in competition, but also for her character and devotion as part of the Gerlach family. Club tributes remembered her as a determined competitor with a lifetime record of 37 placements, and as a treasured house dog—“the Gerlach’s morning paper retriever and the children’s bed partner.”

In honor of Dusty and the exceptional Brittany bitches who follow in her legacy, the Christy’s Feather Duster Trophy is awarded each year as a non-retireable rotating trophy. The owner of the winning bitch receives a keeper plaque or trophy, similar to other ABC perpetual awards.

At Mr. Gerlach’s request, and with approval of the ABC Board, the award is based on placement in the National Championships with any Open placement taking precedence over any Amateur placement.

The trophy itself is a distinctive and elegant piece: a pair of Lalique crystal quail mounted on a rosewood base, symbolizing the Brittany’s field heritage and the tradition of excellence celebrated at the National Championships.
